TranCYST provides an integrated programme to train young researchers to become future successful players in translational research. It will offer them a solid base for a career in translational medicine, both in academia and in industry. For this purpose, TranCYST creates a multidisciplinary training programme consisting of individual research projects (aligned with local training programs) and a wider range of network training activities within the TranCYST consortium. These include four training modules covering all necessary training aspects, secondments at both academic and private sector, training sites and active participation in network symposia and international conferences.
The training programme will be tailored to the individual needs of each newly recruited E(S)R through a personal education plan, following discussion with individual supervisors in accordance to the recommendations of the supervisory board. Moreover, the active participation of the E(S)Rs in the management and organization of the TranCYST project will be encouraged (through representation, presentations, discussions) as an essential part of their research training to develop transnational leadership and collaborative skills. All TranCYST academic partners are already operating in multi-disciplinary teams.
Structure of the Training Programme
The training programme includes local training activities at the host institute where the E(S)R will be appointed, as well as network-wide training activities.
Local training activities:
– Training within the individual research projects
– Local PhD programmes/graduate schools (in-depth courses)
– Lab meetings, local research meetings, local lectures and journal clubs,
Network-wide training activities:
– Training courses: Research and transferable skills
– Network meetings
– Network symposium and international conferences.
The training activities will be quantified in terms of the European Credit Transfer System (ECTS) for the ESRs. Courses will be credited as 0.5 ECTS per course day, network meetings as 2 ECTS per meeting and network symposia as 2 ECTS per meeting. The organization of network meetings, symposium or conference will be quantified as 2 ECTS, and attendance at an international conference with 3 ECTS. A minimum of 25 ECTS has to be obtained by all ESRs within three years for network-wide/international training activities.
